If there is a problem with crawling Google, then the index will not be there. And if there is no indexing, then the website will not appear in the search engine.

So the question comes that why would there be problems in crawling Googlebot? There can be two reasons for this.

Repeated Content: Even if the content of the page is already indexed by Google, then your page will not be indexed.

Crawling Issues: If there is an issue in crawling, then the index will not be there and if the index is not there then the website will not show in the search result.



Common Technical Issues in Indexing

If one or more of these three issues are found, Google will not index your page and the entire website.

    Crawled, currently not indexed:

    You have to understand this issue properly first. If you check any of your page URLs in URL Inspection Tools if you get this message Crawled, "currently not indexed". 

    It means Google has read, crawled your page but according to Google's system, your page is not a quality page to be indexed. So the index is not done.

    After receiving this message, you cannot index the page through an indexing request. Or by using any tricks you can't convince Google to index. 


    Misleading content

    Google thinks that the content of your page is not worth indexing. There can be many reasons for this. Maybe your content is thin, or it does not have value or it is a misleading conspiracy theory.

    For example, the content is written about vaccines. Where there will be harm by applying the vaccine, a new variant will come, or by applying the vaccine, a more dire situation will arise, or such information has been given about the wrong vaccine. Google will not index such content.

    Google does not even index pages with misleading. If the page title and description are written only to attract the users and anything else is written in the content. 

    As the title and description have written about indexing issues and the matter is being ranked, Google considers it misleading content. Google does not index such misleading pages.


    How to solve this?

    Apart from this, the page should be attached to more than one website. Not that you should always talk about popular sites. 

    If you are talking about something different, then links to reliable sources should also be given to support your point. Give a link to some such website on your page that is well known. Support your views.

    If your page is already on Crateable then take the link for that page. What I mean to say is this is a whole matter of trust. 


    Don't do this

    If your page is scraping and posting content from some source and getting this error, you should not be surprised. Because thousands of websites do content scraping and also post

    Just think why Google will keep the same content in thousands of numbers? 


    How to solve this?

    For this error, you should pay attention to the content. Correct the content. If the content is disputed, there is something that can be controversial. Trust Google with outbound links and inbound links. And the problems will be solved.


    Discovered, currently not indexed

    This error seems to be crawled, not currently indexed but it is not. Discovered, currently not indexed, means Google has been able to find this page but Google cannot or does not want to index it.

    I said two things above. Cannot index and does not want to index. Cannot index means issue is coming in crawl budget. 


    Crawl budget

    Google gives a quota according to the size and importance of the website, for the time it will crawl.

    If it takes more than the specified time to crawl your website, then Google will not crawl the rest of the pages. The index will also not be possible. 

    There are only 9-10 thousand pages of websites within the crawl budget. Small websites or websites with few pages will have no problem with this crawl budget.


    How to solve this?

    Websites with more than 10 thousand pages should be checked whether you are wasting the crawl budget by indexing the website's outdated pages, tags, useless categories, or search pages? should find a solution accordingly.

    If there is an indexing issue in a website with less than 10 thousand pages, then it simply means that Google does not want to index that page. Google thinks the page is useless.

    And the solution is to understand Google Important. how? First of all, do an internal link on that page. Link this page with an internal link from the page which has been indexed. 

    By giving a link to the relevant anchor text, Google will get a hint that this page should also be crawled. Google will crawl this page as this page is linked to old pages.

    Apart from internal links, if you take or generate a link to this page from an external site, then the chances of this page being crawled increase.

    Orphan pages

    Sometimes small things create big problems. Many times we remain confident, our page has been added to the sitemap. But in this manageable CMS era, like computer systems, software, and another system, CMS also makes mistakes.

    So see in the sitemap whether the page is added or not? If not, Google won't see it. Won't be visible means there won't be an index either.

    A simple solution to this is to quickly add your site to the sitemap.


    5xx issues ( Server errors )

    Any errors Google Search Console shows from 5xx to 599 will all be server errors. 5xx error means the page was not downloaded when Google came to crawl your page.

    Its solutions will also be with your hosting provider. Talk to them and say that the error shows of website 5xx are happening. And get the problem solved.

    The server error is always due to hosting or by yourself or your web designer keeping the website down. I mean to make the website live, the server will be automatically fixed and 5xx issues will be solved.


    Submitted URL blocked by robots.txt

    This means that the page you want to index is blocked from robots.txt. If you have disallowed your page by editing your robots.txt file, then Google will not be able to crawl it and will not be able to index it.

    Its simple solution is to edit the robots.txt file. Put the disallowed page in the category of allow. And solve the problem.


    Submitted URL marked no-index

    When you put a no-index mark on a page, that page is not indexed.

    The way to solve it is simple. You remove the no-index tag from you, the issue will be solved.


    Soft 404

    Even if your page falls under the category of soft 404, Google will not index your page. There are many reasons for a soft 404.

    If there is no content on your page, only the header, footer, dummy text, or very little text, then according to Google, this page should not be there. This page should be 404 returned. But the code is giving 200.

    In this case, Google will not consider this page as 200 code and will give a soft 404 error. And Google will not index this page. Sometimes redirect pages create soft 404 errors. 

    How to solve this?

    If you are redirecting from one link to multiple links then this issue can come. So make sure that the link always redirects between two links.

    Sometimes CMS or whatever platform you are using can also create soft 404 issues. So you should discuss this with your developer.


    Canonical issues

     In the case of indexes, canonical issues are a group of many issues. If you do not know about Canonical Tags, then you can read our Canonical Tags page.

    For example, if your website has three pages A, B, C. The content of these three pages is similar or similar and you want to index the C page. So you have to declare the A, B canonical of the page. Also, you have to provide instruction C is the canonical C of the page.

    Canonical does not mean giving instruction. You have been told that A, B, C, index only C out of the pages. But Google doesn't need to listen to you. Google can also index A or B. Why does Google do this? Google is getting a miss signal.

    How to solve this?

    • Check your A, B, C page is given the same canonical?
    • Check that the page you declared canonical is also given that canonical?
    • Check that the link to A, or B is not given in the internal link. Only given to C. Because of which Google can get miss signals. If Google gets confused then Google will index any one page of its own free will and will not index other pages.
    • If any page has not been made canonical, then Google will again index one page of its own free will and will not index the rest of the pages.

    So, set Canonical to Properly. the problem will be solved.
